As a true lyricist, Radio Na-im strives to create music with a message. His style is a mixture of jazz, hip-hop, and alternative with a focus on thought-provoking content.
Radio grew up a military brat with family roots in South Carolina. He spent his early years in Europe. In middle school, his dad was transferred to Fort Riley and his family moved to Junction City Kansas. After high school, Radio fell in love with Jesus and his wife and they moved to the Kansas City area to make their home.
Radio’s rap career started in Germany at age 10 when he wrote his first rap for a D.A.R.E. assembly at his school. Through the years, he has continued to hone his craft, filling numerous notebooks or writing bars on any scrap of paper he could find.
The greatest musical influences to Radio are his brother and various local rappers. He also credits influence to Special Ed, Geto Boys, Poor Righteous Teachers, NWA, and DJ Qwik though his music library knows no limits and his style reflects this.
Radio has been a part of the groups X Marks the Spot and Mic Life as well as a member of Soul Providers Crew, Blackradio, and Bar Writers though he is most often found doing solo work or collaborating with other artists. Radio is trying to change the culture by bringing it back to bars and songs that mean something. “I’m an MC, not a rapper. With that comes a lot of responsibility. You have to teach and lead the youth.”
